With gas grills, after removing the coarsest incrustations, bring the empty grill back up to maximum temperature again with the lid closed for 10 to 15 minutes. Any remaining ashes can be easily removed with a brass brush – never with a steel brush. Experts speak of pyrolysis in this context.
